Awareness Seminar on Updating the Voter Registry Organized by the Media and Government Communication Department

The Media and Government Communication Department at the Presidency of the University of Samarra organized an awareness seminar on “Updating the Voter Registry” and the biometric card, in collaboration with the Salah al-Din Election Office of the Independent High Electoral Commission, on Sunday, April 27.

The seminar was presented by Mr. Omar Sajid Hassan (Director of the Department), Mr. Mohammed Hassoun Mohammed (Deputy Technical Director of the Salah al-Din Election Office), Mr. Yasser Nassif Jassim, and Mr. Ali Issa Imran from the same office, with the attendance of the Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs, several faculty members, employees, and students.

Mr. Sajid highlighted the university’s role and its media efforts in raising awareness and educating the public about updating voter records. This has been done through various media campaigns organized and to be organized across all university sectors, including awareness campaigns, distribution of printed brochures, production of video materials encouraging voter registry updates, issuance of biometric cards, and promoting participation in the 2025 elections.

Mr. Hassoun emphasized the urgency of updating voter records to secure voting rights. He explained that this process includes adding biometric and written data, changing polling centers, and reuniting family members who are registered in different locations.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nassif explained that the Salah al-Din Election Office is prepared to provide mobile teams within the university. These teams will assist university staff and students—both from inside and outside the province—in updating their voter records and adding new births to the registry, as well as issuing voter cards for them.

The Assistant President for Scientific Affairs expressed his pleasure with the topic of the seminar and the department’s efforts to safeguard the rights of students, staff, and faculty members, while also implementing ministerial directives. He affirmed the university’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with all state institutions, especially in facilitating the reception of mobile teams from the Salah al-Din Election Office.

It is worth noting that the Media and Government Communication Department at the University of Samarra intensified its media campaigns and awareness activities throughout the past week to encourage the updating of the voter registry. This seminar was part of the department’s planned activities, aimed particularly at promoting the concept of joint cooperation and government communication among state institutions.
