College of Applied Sciences Trains Students in Fungal Diagnosis and Isolation

The College of Applied Sciences at the University of Samarra organized a training course on “Isolation and Diagnosis of Dermatophytes.” The course was conducted by Assistant Lecturer Maryam Tariq Daham, a faculty member in the Department of Medical Analysis.

The lecture aimed to enhance students’ practical skills in collecting skin samples—such as skin, hair, and nails—and training them in diagnosing fungal diseases. It also introduced the different types of dermatophytes that cause infections and how to identify them in the laboratory.

Tariq emphasized the importance of using proper methods for collecting infected samples to prevent disease transmission. She also highlighted the necessity of employing modern, sterile culturing techniques and microscopic examination for dermatophytes.

It is worth noting that students in the College of Applied Sciences undergo continuous training, especially in laboratory work, which is an integral part of their coursework to strengthen their applied and practical knowledge.
