Engineering Students Visit North Refineries Company in Salah al-Din
The College of Engineering at the University of Samarra organized a scientific visit for electromechanical engineering students to the North Refineries Company (Mustafa al-Sumoud) in Salah al-Din Province, accompanied by a group of faculty members from the department.
The organizers aimed to strengthen engineering concepts and provide students with practical training in the operation and maintenance of thermal power stations, through hands-on exposure to actual industrial units and operational mechanisms inside oil refineries.
The students toured the rotating equipment maintenance workshop, one of the most critical operational sections, due to its direct interaction with vital mechanical systems such as pumps, compressors, turbines, and engines. They learned about maintenance procedures and the periodic inspection methods applied to these systems.
Additionally, the students observed the operation of steam production systems, thermal energy transfer, and the control of temperature and pressure, along with preventive and routine maintenance methods for these systems.
The refinery team also escorted the students to the control and monitoring unit, where they were introduced to the advanced digital systems used to oversee and manage the refinery’s large-scale industrial processes.
The visit concluded with the College of Engineering delegation expressing their gratitude and appreciation to the management and staff of the North Refineries Company for their warm reception and fruitful cooperation in conveying precise technical information, helping to bridge the gap between theoretical and practical learning for the students.
