First Scientific Conference of the English Language Department Incorporates Artificial Intelligence into its Core Studies
Coinciding with its International Day, the English Language Department at the College of Education, University of Samarra, held its first scientific conference under the slogan “With Change, Civilizations Thrive,” titled “The Spaces of the Third Millennium and Research Trends in English Language Studies,” on the morning of Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
The event opened with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha in memory of Professor Dr. Osama Abdulhamid Al-Hussein, a faculty member of the college, as well as for the souls of the martyrs of Iraq and the Arab and Islamic nations.
Following this, a speech from the university presidency was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Ziad Tariq Ibrahim on behalf of the university president, encouraging the success of conferences that elevate the university’s academic standing and enhance its scholarly reputation.
Assistant Professor Dr. Abdulhamid Mazahim Shakir, Dean of the College of Education, emphasized in his speech the college’s dedication to advancing its academic level, particularly in scientific fields, and its efforts to align with other Iraqi universities by organizing and hosting distinguished academic events.
Through this conference, the department aimed to explore the latest research trends in English language studies and teaching methods in the third millennium, to assess the impact of contemporary issues on English language learners, and to keep pace with developments in English linguistic and literary translations.
Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Hassani Yaseen, Head of the English Language Department and Chair of the Organizing Committee, announced the commencement of the conference proceedings, which were divided into several sections. These included studies in English linguistics, featuring a fundamental study on the use of artificial intelligence techniques in English language studies, along with research on teaching methodologies, contemporary trends in English translation, and new directions in contemporary literature.
Notably, the conference was attended by Dr. Fatima Mohammed Ali, Head of the Language Center at the Department of Scholarships and Cultural Relations at the Ministry, along with prominent academic figures in English language studies from various Iraqi universities.
The conference concluded with the presentation of shields and medals to the participants in recognition of their efforts in writing and discussing scientific research.
