Innovations..Physics Department Offers Advanced Technical Course on Thin Films
The Department of Physics at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Samarra, presented a training course on “Thin Films: Their Deposition Mechanism, Applications, and Associated Measurements.” The course was delivered by Assoc.Prof. Dr. Fares Mahir Ahmed.
Dr. Ahmed began his session by clarifying the nature of thin films, the various methods for utilizing their applications, and the mechanism for forming their precise atomic layers. He also covered the methods for their physical and chemical preparation according to their specific mechanisms.
Dr. Ahmed further explained the structure of these films, which are formed from the accumulation of infinitesimally small layers, granting them distinct physical properties, thereby expressing an increase in the surface-to-volume ratio.
Additionally, he specified their fields of application (Optical and Photonic), including solar cells, as well as photography, photocopying devices, and flat-panel displays.
The course presenter, in turn, recommended enhancing materials science by studying the optical properties of thin films due to their importance in developing modern applications. He also advised analyzing the crystalline structure using X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and explaining how these diffractions are linked within the crystal structure.
