Rector of the University of Samarra Announces a Qualitative Leap in the Webometrics Global Ranking Despite Challenges

The Rector of the University of Samarra, Prof. Dr. Sabah Allawi al-Samarrai, announced the official results of the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities (December 2025 edition), which were published on the official ranking website between January 20–25, 2026.

He emphasized that the university has achieved significant and noticeable progress at the local, continental, and global levels.

The results showed that the University of Samarra secured the 54th rank locally in Iraq, 2442nd continentally in Asia, and 5708th globally.
This marks a clear improvement compared to the January 2025 ranking, where the university previously held the 62nd local, 2869th continental, and 6680th global positions.

-Sabah- pointed out that this progress is considered an important achievement credited to the University of Samarra and all its teaching and administrative staff, especially as it was achieved despite the challenges and exceptional circumstances facing Iraqi universities.
He stressed that these results reflect the continuous efforts made by the university to develop its academic, research, and digital presence and to enhance its position in reputable international rankings.

The University Rector explained that the Webometrics ranking relies on precise indicators, foremost of which are web presence, scientific openness, research quality, and academic impact. This makes the progress clear evidence of the improvement in the university\’s institutional and scientific performance, and the success of its policies in supporting scientific research, encouraging high-quality publishing, and updating the digital infrastructure of the university’s websites and colleges.

In turn, the Rector of the University praised the efforts of all staff members, calling for continued work in the spirit of one team and the consolidation of a culture of quality and academic accreditation.
He reaffirmed that the university is moving with steady steps toward achieving even more advanced ranks in future global rankings, in a manner befitting its history, scientific mission, and service to society.
