Workshop at the College of Agriculture Discusses Converting Food Waste into Renewable Energy

The College of Agriculture at the University of Samarra held a workshop titled “Producing Renewable Energy from Food Waste,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Baraa Abdul Salam Abdul Hamid and Assistant Lecturer Abeer Majeed Shaker.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the mechanisms of producing renewable energy from food waste and to demonstrate methods of converting this waste into renewable energy.

Abdul Salam defined food waste as an alternative energy resource and provided examples of how this waste can be transformed into renewable energy. She also explained energy production techniques through biological degradation, chemical decomposition, and thermal decomposition.

Majeed highlighted the challenges and opportunities in producing renewable energy from food waste, such as high costs, advanced technology requirements, and the need for international cooperation between governmental and non-governmental institutions, especially in producing electricity, biofuels, and natural gas.

Both lecturers recommended increasing investment in research and development, particularly in alternative energy topics, recycling, and utilizing food waste. They also emphasized the importance of governmental support for scientific research projects and clean energy production.
