Seminar at the University of Samarra Discusses the Future of Human Rights in the Age of AI
An awareness seminar of utmost importance, titled “The Future of Human Rights in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”, was held by the Human Rights Division at the University of Samarra’s Continuing Education Hall.
Assistant Professor Dr. Adnan Talfa Mohammed, a renowned expert in the field, was the keynote speaker at the seminar. His aim was to raise awareness among students and academics about the ethical and legal issues related to artificial intelligence and human rights.
The seminar began with an introduction to artificial intelligence and human rights, outlining the technology and its potential impact on human rights. It then reviewed the current laws and ethical principles governing the use of artificial intelligence both locally and internationally to examine the legal and ethical framework in Iraq.
The seminar also included discussions and interactions between the speaker and the heads of human rights units from the university’s faculties, highlighting the topic’s importance and the benefits gained by the attendees.
The speaker recommended raising awareness among students and academics about artificial intelligence’s impact on human rights through educational seminars. He also emphasized the need to establish local policies and laws to ensure the use of artificial intelligence in ways that respect human rights and to develop ethical principles for using artificial intelligence across all fields in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
In the same context, Talfa stressed the importance of supporting research in Iraqi universities aimed at developing AI technologies that respect fundamental rights and freedoms and enhancing cooperation between Iraqi universities and international institutions to ensure the protection of human rights amidst technological advancements.
