College of Education for Humanities Organizes Awareness Campaign on the Risks of Illegal Migration
The Media and Government Communication Division at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Samarra, organized an awareness campaign regarding the dangers of illegal migration.
This initiative follows the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to intensify media awareness on the issues surrounding irregular migration.
The campaign involved distributing brochures throughout the university’s premises.
These materials provided a clear definition of illegal migration as the movement of individuals across international borders outside of established legal frameworks. It also highlighted various root causes, including: Economic factors: Such as unemployment and low income, Political factors: Related to conflicts and instability, Social and environmental factors.
Focus on Risks and Consequences
The awareness materials focused heavily on the grave risks associated with this type of migration, most notably, Exploitation by human trafficking and smuggling networks, Health risks and physical dangers during unsafe journeys, The loss of legal rights and difficulty accessing basic services, Constant psychological distress due to the threat of detention or deportation.
On the other hand, the brochures presented several legal alternatives, such as regular migration for work, study, or humanitarian asylum.
The campaign also emphasized the vital role of local development, job creation, and proactive awareness as effective tools to curb this phenomenon.
The campaign aimed to raise awareness among students and foster a culture of “conscious choice,” aligning with the educational and media mission of the university. This effort reflects the institution’s commitment to ministerial directives concerning societal issues with humanitarian and national dimensions.
