Awareness Campaign to Combat Drugs Organized by the Department of Internal Affairs

The Department of Internal Affairs at the Presidency of the University of Samarra organized an awareness campaign to combat drugs by distributing brochures throughout the university campus, carried out by the Social Research Division team.
The organizers aimed to explain the concept of drugs both linguistically and scientifically, their types, their harmful effects on individuals and society, the causes of addiction, ways to combat it, and methods of prevention.
Scientifically, drugs are defined as any plant-based or manufactured substance that causes changes in perception and feeling, affecting behavior, movement, and cognition.
The Social Research Division team emphasized the social harms of drugs, such as moral collapse, increased accident rates, economic deterioration, and the spread of diseases and violent crimes.
Additionally, the brochures addressed the causes of drug abuse, including distancing from religious values, lack of family supervision due to family disintegration, bad company, and wasting long periods of free time.
The campaign organizers recommended the need to include topics addressing negative phenomena, especially the drug epidemic, in educational curricula, strengthen the role of families in supervision, promote sports and scientific activities to eliminate idle time, and raise community awareness—especially among youth—about the dangers of drugs and the social and legal penalties facing users.
