Colleges of Samarra University Organize Awareness Seminars to Combat Violence Against Women
The colleges of Samarra University have organized various awareness seminars to combat violence against women as part of the Guidance Week activities overseen by the University’s Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Division.
The colleges of Education, Law, Physical Education and Sports Sciences, and Agriculture in Balad participated in organizing seminars targeting university students and staff. These activities aimed to raise awareness about violence against women, explain its types and causes, provide accurate information on laws and policies related to protecting women’s rights, and offer guidance on supporting victims.
In this context, the seminar held by the College of Education highlighted that one in three women experiences violence, a statistic that is both shocking and indicative of the dire reality faced by women in society.
Similarly, the seminar by the College of Agriculture addressed the adverse effects of violence on women, including health and psychological issues and mental disorders experienced by many victims.
The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences emphasized Islam’s respect for women, as demonstrated by refraining from harming them, showing patience during conflicts, and treating them with kindness, following the example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It was noted that women’s rights in Islam extend beyond material rights to encompass psychological rights as well.
Meanwhile, the College of Law focused on the diverse capabilities of Iraqi women, specifically their significant contributions to comprehensive development by ensuring equitable opportunities for all without restrictions.
The lecturers recommended strengthening community policing resources, educating women on how to communicate with these services, and educating men on proper ways to treat women in line with Islamic principles. They also stressed the importance of removing obstacles that hinder women’s progress and involving them in nation-building and decision-making processes.
