A workshop at the College of Applied Sciences, University of Samarra, titled “Premarital Examinations from a Genetic and Molecular Perspective,” was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Marwan Qahtan Jassim and Dr. Hanan Waleed Mohammed, both faculty members at the college.

The workshop aimed to raise awareness of the importance of premarital screenings and reduce the spread of genetic and communicable diseases, especially in cases of consanguineous marriages or when a hereditary disease is present in either family. The presenters emphasized the necessity of conducting regular screenings before marriage.

Dr. Qahtan explained the most important tests that should be conducted, including blood tests to determine compatibility and type, tests for communicable diseases, fertility evaluations, and genetic disease screenings.

Dr. Waleed recommended raising awareness about the concept of comprehensive healthy marriage, reducing pressure on healthcare institutions and blood banks, and avoiding social and psychological issues for families. She also stressed the importance of minimizing the financial burden associated with treating affected individuals.
