Department of Physics Organizes a Training Course on Preventive and Therapeutic Procedures for X-ray Machines
The Department of Physics at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Samarra, organized a training course titled “Preventive and Therapeutic Procedures for Personnel Working on X-ray Machines,” presented by Assoc. Prof. (Marwan Abdul-Karim Abdul-Baqi).
The course presenter sought to define the electromagnetic spectrum, its types, and classifications, with a focus on ionizing radiation, particularly X-rays.
Marwan added the mechanism of knowing X-ray characteristics through their high energy, wavelengths, frequencies, and their method of operation and various uses.
Meanwhile, the lecturer pointed out the necessity of preventive procedures that technicians and doctors working on X-ray machines must adhere to, aiming to reduce the risks of radiation exposure, most notably complying with the international standards adopted by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
It is noteworthy that the course concluded with a set of recommendations, the most important of which were: using radiation dosimeters to monitor accumulated radiation, considering exposure time, and wearing protective clothing and equipment to protect the body.
It also addressed the therapeutic methods and procedures to be followed in case a worker in this field is exposed to radiation doses higher than the permissible limits.
