Lecturer at the University of Samarra Publishes Joint Research in a Scopus-Indexed Scientific Journal
Assist. Lect. Hisham Abdulrahman Mahdi, a faculty member at the College of Applied Sciences at the University of Samarra, published a joint research paper with a group of researchers in the journal
which belongs to the international publishing house Springer and is ranked in the second quartile (Q2) within the Scopus index.
The research was titled: “Comparative Mitogenome Sequences and Phylogenetic Relationships of Two Mongooses (Herpestes ichneumon and Urva auropunctata) from Türkiye and Iraq”.
The study focused on the molecular investigation and evolutionary comparison of two species of mongooses in Türkiye and Iraq, utilizing the Complete Mitogenome and techniques from Bioinformatics and Molecular Phylogenetics analyses.
The study was centered on analyzing the complete mitogenome of the two mongoose species, Herpestes ichneumon and Urva auropunctata, characterizing its organization and molecular structure, and examining the Genetic Diversity between samples from Iraq and Türkiye, comparing them with global samples.
It is noteworthy that the significance of this study lies in its being one of the first to integrate samples from Türkiye and Iraq with global databases to understand the evolutionary history of the mongoose family. It highlights the major role of Bioinformatics Pipelines and Computational Genomics in analyzing the animal genome and studying genetic relationships.
