Samarra University Lecturers Publish Joint Scientific Research in a Scopus-Indexed Journal
Prof. Dr. Rana Ibrahim Khalil, a lecturer at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, in partnership with Assist. Lect. Ali Younis Alwan from the College of Applied Sciences at the University of Samarra, published a joint scientific paper in the Journal of Environmental Engineering, which is classified within the Second Quartile (Q2) in the Scopus database.
Their study, titled “Comparative Assessment of Silver Oxide Nanoparticles and Spirulina platensis in the Treatment of Real Industrial Wastewater,” aimed to investigate the comparative efficiency of Silver Oxide Nanoparticles (\bm{\text{Ag}_2\text{O}}) and Spirulina platensis algae in treating industrial wastewater.
The researchers synthesized Silver Oxide Nanoparticles (\bm{\text{Ag}_2\text{O}}) using chemical precipitation and characterized them using X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM).
The study results showed that the \bm{\text{Ag}_2\text{O}} nanoparticles, prepared by the chemical precipitation method and characterized by advanced techniques, possess a high capacity for removing chemical pollutants and heavy metals. Furthermore, the average size of the nanoparticles was approximately 47 nanometers, with a removal efficiency reaching 92% for Lead, 88% for Turbidity, and 85% for Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD).
The Department of Media and Governmental Communication congratulates the University of Samarra faculty members on their joint scientific achievement, wishing them continued progress in their research and academic careers.
