A Symposium at the College of Education for Pure Sciences Presents Sustainable Solutions to Environmental Pollution
The College of Education for Pure Sciences at the University of Samarra organized a symposium titled \”Environmental Pollution and Sustainable Solutions,\” presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. (Ahmed Khalid Hussein) and Dr. (Wafaa Naseef Jasim), both instructors in the Department of Chemistry at the college.
The lecturers aimed to define the concept of environmental pollution and harmful emissions, identify their sources and their effects on human health, the environment, and climate, as well as explore the possibility of applying modern and sustainable methods to reduce them and enhance environmental awareness among community members.
The lecturers explained the concept of pollution and emissions, the most prominent polluting gases affecting the environment, clarified the types of pollution, the causes of increased emissions, and their environmental and health impacts. They also discussed ways to reduce pollution and emissions by relying on clean energy, recycling, afforestation, and strengthening the role of individuals and society in protecting the environment.
The symposium concluded with a set of recommendations, the most notable of which include: using renewable energy sources, supporting environmental legislation and laws, spreading environmental culture in schools and universities, encouraging recycling and afforestation initiatives to help preserve the environment and mitigate climate change, adopting sound environmental practices in various sectors, and utilizing modern technologies to reduce the negative effects of pollution and achieve sustainable development.
