Scientific Assistant Chairs Meeting on University CBRN Safety and Security

Professor Dr. Kamal Hussein Ahmed, the Assistant University President for Scientific Affairs, chaired a meeting of the university’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Safety and Security Committee in his office. The committee, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Thaer Jawad, includes several department heads and faculty members specializing in chemistry.

The meeting discussed the potential establishment of chemical and biological safety and security units within the university’s various departments. Additionally, it addressed the monitoring of storage and usage of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear materials to ensure compliance with international standards.

Participants also explored ways to enhance the educational and knowledge capacities of faculty and students regarding CBRN safety in university laboratories. This includes organizing local and international scientific seminars and conferences, as well as specialized workshops aimed at improving CBRN security.

Furthermore, the meeting emphasized the importance of displaying instructional and warning posters and signs in university laboratories and chemical storage areas. It also highlighted the need for awareness activities focusing on CBRN safety and security.

The Assistant Scientific Director stressed the necessity of scheduling visits to laboratories and storage facilities across colleges to monitor safety procedures. He emphasized creating a safe environment within the university to ensure the well-being of staff and students, thereby enhancing the quality of scientific research and practical experiments.
