The College of Education Organizes a Seminar on Methods of Preserving Plant Specimens

The College of Education at the University of Samarra, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Center at the university’s presidency, organized a scientific seminar titled “Methods of Preserving Plant Specimens.” The seminar was presented by Assistant Lecturer Harith Sameer Dawood and Assistant Lecturer Hussein Saher Hassan.

The lecturers aimed to explain the process of preserving plant specimens, highlighting its role as a fundamental aspect of plant sciences. The preservation process serves as a repository for lost plant species and holds significant scientific and practical importance in research.

Assistant Lecturer Sameer emphasized scientific documentation and the systematic preservation of specimens within a herbarium to serve as a scientific reference for researchers. He explained that this process involves recording specimen details, such as the plant’s name, the environment in which it was found, and its morphological characteristics.

Similarly, Assistant Lecturer Saher highlighted the scientific value of preserved specimens in studying the taxonomic relationships among plants, identifying new species, and their use as educational materials in universities and institutes to train students and familiarize them with different plant species.

Both lecturers stressed the long-term benefits of preserving plant specimens in maintaining biodiversity, supporting scientific research with valuable information, and enhancing agricultural productivity.
