The University of Samarra Holds its First Annual Scientific Conference to Combat Drug Spread
The presidency of the University of Samarra held its first annual scientific conference to combat the spread of drugs on Wednesday and Thursday, December 4-5, under the title: “The University and Its Role in Combating Drug Spread: Prevention and Treatment.”
The conference opened with a speech by Professor Dr. Kamal Hussein Ahmed, Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs. He highlighted the university administration’s vision for reducing drug spread through organizing numerous seminars and awareness campaigns. These initiatives were supported by a group of academics from the university staff, who emphasized their educational and awareness roles alongside their academic duties.
The conference featured research contributions from various organizations, including the Samarra Community Police Department, the Directorate for Combating Narcotics, the Directorate of University Security in Iraq, the National Security Agency in southern Salahuddin, and the Saraya al-Salam Forces in Samarra. Additionally, university professors presented research papers across various fields.
Participants delivered research papers addressing the conference themes, which included religious, educational, medical, scientific, sports, media, and legal aspects. The discussions revolved around scientific and knowledge-based approaches to curb the spread of drugs and effective solutions for eradicating the issue.

- “The Impact of Drugs on Youth and Their Academic Future”
- “The Impact of Drugs on Society”
Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul Salam Tawfiq Saleh from the University of Samarra contributed with his research titled “Drugs and Their Impact on Mental Health,” which was discussed in the conference’s first session.
In the second session, other research papers included:

- “The Role of Universities in Combating Drug Spread Through Awareness and Treatment from an Islamic Perspective”
- “Methods of Security Media in Addressing the Drug Phenomenon in Iraqi Society: A Theoretical Study”
- “The Role of Iraqi Universities in Combating Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth): An Epistemological Study”
- “The Relative Impact of Physical Geography and Religious Culture on Drug Use and Psychotropic Substances”
The conference served as the opening event of the University of Samarra’s activities for the Iraqi Week for Combating Drugs, following the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It reflects the university’s commitment to supporting government policies and programs.
