Workshop at the College of Education for Human Sciences Discusses Geographic Entrepreneurship

The Department of Geography at the College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Samarra, held a scientific workshop titled “Geographic Entrepreneurship and its Impact on Investing in Natural Resources.” The workshop featured presentations by Dr. Nour El-Din Faisal Ibrahim, Dr. Ali Shafiq Hamid, and Assist. Lect. Abdullah Hussein Allawi.

Dr. Nour El-Din reviewed the conceptual shift in geography, noting its evolution from a traditional descriptive field into an active analytical tool for developmental decision-making. He emphasized that “place” is no longer a static frame but a productive element whose economic value can be maximized through precise spatial planning.

Dr. Ali focused on the operational side, highlighting the role of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing in identifying optimal investment sites. He discussed improving the efficiency of resource utilization—specifically water, agricultural land, and renewable energy—to reduce environmental waste and promote sustainability.

Mr. Abdullah elaborated on how spatial analysis-based projects support the local economy and create job opportunities. He stressed their role in enhancing water and food security and addressing environmental challenges in regions rich with underutilized natural resources.

The workshop concluded that investing in Geographic Entrepreneurship is a strategic necessity dictated by modern development requirements. By transforming natural resources into knowledge-based and location-specific productive projects, geography provides the analytical precision needed to balance economic exploitation with environmental protection.
