Workshop on Physical Education Discusses Countering Extremism and Promoting Peace Values
The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Samarra held a workshop presented by Dr. Mayada Hamoud Ahmed, focusing on “Promoting Peace and Tolerance Values and Countering Extremism.”
The lecture aimed to strengthen resistance to extremism and commend efforts to curb the spread of extremist and violent ideologies leading to terrorism.
Countering extremism involves a broad range of strategies designed to prevent individuals from drifting toward various forms of extremism and rehabilitating those influenced by extremist thoughts.
Dr. Hamoud emphasized methods to combat extremism, notably enhancing community awareness of its dangers through media campaigns and educational programs. She also highlighted the importance of combating misinformation by providing accurate and reliable information to counter extremist propaganda on social media platforms.
Additionally, the lecture recommended offering psychological and social support to individuals at risk of extremism, especially youth, through counseling and guidance programs. It also suggested developing rehabilitation programs for those affected by extremism and creating educational and professional environments that assist individuals who have renounced extremism in reintegrating into society.
