A Seminar at the College of Law Illustrates Forms of Bullying and Its Role in Violence and Terrorism
The Government Media and Communications Division at the College of Law, Samarra University, organized an awareness seminar titled “Verbal and Electronic Bullying as a Primary Incubator for Violence Leading to Extremism and Terrorism,” presented by Ms. Zahraa Adel Mohammed.
In the beginning of her seminar, Adel explained the concept of bullying and its forms (verbal, physical, and electronic), while outlining the causes of the bullying phenomenon and the psychological and social problems resulting from it.
The presenter attributed the continued spread of such negative phenomena to the weak stereotypical image of some society members and the lack of digital awareness, in addition to the absence of a legal deterrent.
Meanwhile, the lecturer focused on the necessity of highlighting the state’s role in activating strict laws against phenomena leading to terrorism, as well as the role of educational and academic institutions and the media in promoting a culture of respect and equality in society.
The seminar concluded with several recommendations, including: establishing psychological and legal support units for victims of bullying to encourage them to break their silence and respond without fear, and calling on legislative bodies to enact strict laws to confront digital abuse.
