Workshop on Physical Education and Sports Sciences: Training in Self-Defense and Emergency Response

The College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Samarra organized a training workshop on “Principles of Self-Defense and Emergency Response,” in cooperation with the Continuing Education Center and the Women’s Empowerment Division. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Mustafa Ahmed Abdulmajid and Dr. Aseel Ibrahim Shihab.

The organizers aimed to help individuals act quickly and effectively to protect themselves when needed, build self-confidence, and develop the ability to defend themselves. The importance of learning self-defense lies in the confidence it instills, which extends beyond physical strength to facing daily life challenges with steadiness and awareness.

In a related context, Ibrahim explained methods for self-protection in stressful situations, equipping participants with simple techniques for self-defense before and during any assault, and empowering individuals to maintain their personal safety.

Meanwhile, Ahmed presented the practical aspect of the workshop, introducing students to the concept of martial arts, its basic skills, how to read opponents and anticipate their movements, and how to develop effective combat strategies, along with various tactics and techniques for maintaining focus and calm under sudden pressure.

Practically, the workshop included exercises to enhance awareness and attentiveness to the surrounding environment, helping participants avoid unexpected dangerous situations. It also involved learning some martial arts moves, including exercises to improve physical fitness and agility.

The lecturers emphasized the importance of remaining calm, practicing self-control, and avoiding provocation, especially since martial arts help regulate and protect oneself through specialized physical and psychological training.
