A Faculty Member at the University of Samarra Publishes a Collaborative Research Paper in a Scopus-Indexed Journal

Professor Dr. Mohammed Ismail Alawi, a faculty member at the College of Engineering at the University of Samarra, has published a collaborative research paper with researchers from the universities of Kirkuk, Karbala, and Kermian in the Kurdistan region, in addition to international researchers from KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden, Ural Federal University in Russia, and Tashkent University in Uzbekistan. The paper was published in the International Journal of Thermal Sciences, which is ranked in the first quartile (Q1) of Scopus.

The research is titled:
“Influence of adiabatic semi-circular grooved in backward-facing step on thermal-hydraulic characteristics of nanofluid”

The study analyzed the thermal and hydraulic performance of nanofluids, specifically Al₂O₃-water nanofluids, within a geometrical design known as the “Backward-Facing Step (BFS)” using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques via ANSYS Fluent software.

The study’s findings demonstrated that increasing nanoparticle concentration and Reynolds numbers significantly improved heat transfer rates. The convective heat transfer coefficient increased by factors of 1.031, 1.063, and 1.096 at different nanofluid concentrations.
