A Seminar at the College of Engineering Highlights the Role of Sensors in Developing Transportation Systems
The College of Engineering at the University of Samarra organized a specialized scientific seminar titled “The Importance of Using Sensors in Transportation Engineering and Their Role in Sustainability,” presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Raed Abdullah Hassan.
During the seminar, Dr. Raed addressed the growing role of sensors in developing modern transportation systems, particularly in collecting accurate traffic data, analyzing traffic performance, enhancing road safety, and supporting Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
The seminar focused on how these technologies contribute to achieving environmental sustainability by reducing congestion and carbon emissions, while improving the efficiency of energy and resource consumption.
The lecturer highlighted the importance of adopting sensors as an essential tool in the sustainable planning, operation, and maintenance of road infrastructure.
He demonstrated their role in supporting data-driven decision-making, enhancing public transport efficiency, and supporting active transportation, such as walking and cycling.
In a related context, the seminar witnessed scientific discussions among faculty members, emphasizing the necessity of expanding the use of these technologies in future projects.
They stressed the importance of aligning these efforts with smart city trends and sustainable development to keep pace with global advancements in transportation engineering.
It is worth noting that such activities are vital for enriching academic awareness and strengthening the exchange of expertise.
They emphasize the need to translate theoretical research into tangible practical applications that advance society and support the development of the engineering sector.
