Assistant Professor Ziyad Tariq Ibrahim Earns a Ph.D. from the Faculty of Law in Tunisia

Assistant Professor Ziyad Tariq Ibrahim, a faculty member at the College of Law and the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs at the College of Applied Sciences, has earned his Ph.D. from the Faculty of Law at the University of Sfax in Tunisia, as of January 2025.

In his dissertation, titled “Granting Maternal Nationality in Arab Countries”, Tariq explored the principle of preserving the nationality of children after granting the right to acquire their mother’s nationality. This was based on the concept of jus sanguinis (right of blood), equating it with the father’s right. His research compared laws governing the granting of nationality to children across several Arab countries, including Tunisia, Egypt, Syria, Algeria, the UAE, and Qatar.

Ibrahim concluded that granting mothers the right to pass on their nationality to their children is essential to safeguarding the children’s rights, preventing them from being deprived or losing their rights, and maintaining family unity and closeness. Furthermore, this would achieve the principle of equality with men, whether based on jus sanguinis (right of blood) or jus soli (right of territory).

The staff of the Media and Government Communications Department at the Presidency of the University of Samarra extends their congratulations to Assistant Professor Ziyad Tariq Ibrahim on earning his Ph.D. in Law, wishing him continued success in all his specialized academic endeavors.
