An employee at the University of Samarra earns a Master’s degree in Geography

Mr. Omar Naseef Jassim, an employee at the College of Applied Sciences at the University of Samarra, has obtained a Master’s degree in Geography from the College of Education at the same university.

His thesis, titled “Theories of Urban Planning and Their Impact on Modern and Contemporary Geographic Thought,” aimed to uncover the early beginnings of city formation and development in ancient civilizations. It also explored the initial urban planning theories during their early stages and examined how these theories influenced contemporary cities.

The thesis covered a wide historical period, extending from the emergence of cities in ancient civilizations in both the East and West to the first third of the twentieth century, culminating in Christaller’s Central Place Theory written in 1934.

The student highlighted that urban planning theories represent a rich tapestry of perspectives on how cities evolve and function. Early models, such as the Concentric Zone Model and the Sector Model, provided fundamental insights into urban social and economic stratification and the impact of infrastructure on growth patterns.

On behalf of the University of Samarra, the Department of Media and Government Communications congratulates Mr. Omar Naseef Jassim on his academic achievement and wishes him continued success in the future.
