Department of Internal Dormitories Affairs Raises Awareness on Suicide Prevention
The Social Research Unit at the Department of Internal Dormitories Affairs at the University of Samarra conducted an awareness seminar titled “Suicide: Its Causes, Risks, and Prevention Methods.”
The seminar was presented by Assist. Lect. Marwa Mahmoud Yassin, Assist. Lect. Lara Amer Hamad, and Ms. Taiba Ahmed Mutlaq.
The organizers aimed to enhance psychological and social awareness among students and to highlight sensitive societal issues affecting individual mental health.
The lectures defined the concept of suicide, explained its most prominent psychological and social causes, and the factors leading to it.
Additionally, they discussed prevention methods and the roles of individuals, society, and educational institutions in limiting this phenomenon, emphasizing the importance of psychological support and seeking help at the right time.
The seminar witnessed interaction from the attendees through discussions and questions that contributed to strengthening the understanding and awareness of the importance of mental health and supporting students in facing life pressures and challenges.
On another note, the department staff organized an awareness campaign that involved distributing brochures to the university staff. These brochures included a definition of the suicide phenomenon, warning signs indicating suicidal ideation, and methods for dealing with individuals suffering from mental health issues.
