Engineering and Archaeology Students from the University of Samarra Conduct Field Visit to Al-Mustansiriya School
The Department of Architectural Engineering at the College of Engineering and the Department of Archaeology at the College of Arts, University of Samarra, organized a field visit for their students to the Iraqi National Museum and Al-Mustansiriya School in Baghdad, accompanied by several faculty members from both colleges.
The organizers aimed to enhance students’ knowledge of the country’s cultural heritage and strengthen their practical skills through field application. Students toured the halls of the Iraqi National Museum, observing a collection of artifacts that reflect the grandeur of successive Iraqi civilizations, from the Sumerian era to the Islamic periods. They also visited Al-Mustansiriya School to study its architectural aspects and understand its historical and archaeological significance in Iraqi history.
During the visit, students received explanations about the artistic and architectural techniques used during the Abbasid era, which expanded their understanding of the evolution of Iraqi architecture over time. They also learned about the discovered artifacts and the processes of examining and inspecting them, from the moment of discovery, identifying types of deterioration, treatment methods, to transferring them to the museum’s storage.
This visit is part of the University of Samarra’s efforts to enhance students’ field experience, empower them in their academic specializations, and connect their studies with modern methods in their educational journey.
