Features of Modern Teaching and Learning Methods Discussed in a Seminar at the College of Arts

The College of Arts at the University of Samarra organized a scientific seminar titled “Modern Methods in Teaching and Learning.” The seminar was delivered by Professor Dr. Sahib Asaad Weis, a faculty member at the College of Education, and was attended by a number of professors and educational researchers.

Dr. Asaad explained the guide to modern teaching and learning methods and emphasized the importance of selecting appropriate teaching strategies to achieve educational goals — particularly through effective planning that involves adopting impactful teaching methods to produce optimal outcomes with minimal time and effort.

He also highlighted the objectives and rationale behind using modern teaching methods and reviewed key educational terms related to teaching, learning, instructional methods, and strategies.

A detailed explanation was presented about the concept of modern teaching, outlining its main characteristics: interactivity, active learning, the integration of educational technology, personalization, diversification, continuous motivation, and comprehensive assessment.

In the same context, Dr. Weis focused on the fundamental skills required for modern teaching — from planning and implementation to evaluation — and reviewed various teaching approaches, whether teacher-led, student-driven, or based on mutual interaction.

He stressed the importance of applying the guide to modern methods across university departments and recommended organizing training sessions for faculty members to enhance the quality of education and develop teaching practices in academic institutions.
