Field Visit to Samarra Dam Power Station Organized by the College of Engineering

The College of Engineering at the University of Samarra organized a field visit for third-year students from the Electromechanical Engineering Department to the Samarra Dam Hydroelectric Power Station. The visit was supervised by Professor Dr. Mohammed Ismail Alawi, Assistant Lecturer Iman Adel Mahmoud, and Engineer Ream Ahmed Abdullah.

The station’s management welcomed the College of Engineering delegation, beginning the meeting with a discussion on the history of the station’s establishment, its development stages, and the challenges faced during its operation. The station’s engineers provided students with informative details about the main components of the station, its operational mechanisms from both electrical and mechanical perspectives, and explained the types of protection devices and the process of electricity generation.

In a separate context, the visit concluded with the delegation expressing gratitude to the station’s staff for their warm reception and hospitality, as well as their efforts in enhancing the students’ practical experience.

It is noteworthy that hydroelectric power is a form of renewable energy that relies on water flow to generate electricity. It is a clean and environmentally friendly energy source, as it does not produce carbon emissions, thereby contributing to pollution reduction and climate preservation.
