Joint Educational Seminar Highlights Women’s Role in Science

The Media and Government Communication Department at the Presidency of the University of Samarra, in collaboration with the Media and Government Communication Department of the State Company for Drug Industries and Medical Appliances in Samarra, and the Media Department of the College of Arts at the university, organized an educational seminar titled “The Role of Women and Girls in the Field of Science.” The seminar was presented by Dr. Mohammed Dawood Salman, a faculty member at the College of Arts; Ms. Hanaa Mahmoud Hassan, Head of the Women’s Affairs Committee at the company; and Mr. Wissam Munem Nassif, an employee in the Media and Government Communication Department at the university’s presidency.

Held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the company’s headquarters, the seminar aimed to highlight women’s roles in scientific fields and the media’s role in showcasing women’s research and practical activities in these areas. It also sought to enhance cooperation between state institutions, in line with the ministry’s directives as part of the governmental program plan.

Dr. Dawood discussed the general role of women in society and the necessity of granting women their rightful positions in various fields, especially scientific ones, which stem from their access to education at all levels. He emphasized creating an environment conducive to women and supporting their entry into research and production fields.

Ms. Mahmoud highlighted the significant roles women play in the company, particularly in research and development and production lines, despite the challenges they face in both their academic and social lives.

Mr. Munem pointed out the challenges women encounter in the fields of media and communication sciences, considering it an interdisciplinary specialty intertwined with all sciences, especially in showcasing the achievements of women working in pure science fields.

The company’s Director-General expressed the company’s readiness for ongoing cooperation in all areas, including opening the company’s facilities and laboratories to university students and researchers. He also appreciated the university’s initiative in organizing the seminar at the company’s headquarters.

Similarly, the Director of the Media and Government Communication Department at the University of Samarra’s presidency explained that the department is working diligently to achieve the goals of the governmental program, open avenues for cooperation between state institutions, and activate governmental communication activities, as emphasized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

It’s noteworthy that the seminar coincided with the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, observed annually on February 11.
