President of Samarra University Meets with Salah al-Din Governor to Discuss Housing Land Allocation for University Staff
The President of Samarra University, Professor Dr. Sabah Alawi Al-Samarrai, visited the Governor of Salah al-Din, Mr. Badr Mahmoud Al-Fahal, in his office at the governorate building, accompanied by a university delegation, on the evening of Sunday, March 23 / Ramadan 2025.
During the meeting, Dr. Alawi discussed mechanisms for allocating residential lands to university employees and ensuring their rights—especially for those who have retired or are about to retire. He noted that 573 university employees are eligible.
In response, Al-Fahal pledged to provide the full number of plots after the Samarra earth barrier is extended by 4 km. For now, he can provide 300 plots, following Alawi’s request to allocate at least half the required number based on currently available land.
In another part of the discussion, the two addressed incomplete governorate projects within the university—chief among them the university stadium, which was included in the university development plan in 2014 but remains unfinished.
Governor Al-Fahal also praised the recent academic expansions initiated by Samarra University and commended the university administration’s efforts in constructing buildings and creating new academic opportunities for students in the governorate in particular, and for students across Iraq in general.
The meeting concluded with a request from Dr. Al-Samarrai to include the site of the new Samarra University campus—referred to as the “University City”—in either the Chinese loan project or the “Samarra, Capital of Civilization” initiative.
