Samarra University Hosts Civil Defense Committee to Strengthen Campus Safety
Samarra University welcomed a safety committee from the city’s Civil Defense Center, led by Colonel Ahmed Diaa Mahdi, along with members of the ISO committee. The purpose of the visit was to enhance safety and security measures on campus, with a particular focus on emergency prevention and improving the overall safety environment through the development of preventive protocols and staff training on crisis management.
Assistant Professor Dr. Ziyad Tariq Ibrahim, Vice President for Administrative Affairs, received the committee to discuss the university’s civil defense needs and ISO requirements, which the university aims to implement across all its departments.
The committee toured the university’s new buildings, accompanied by Assistant Professor Dr. Shihab Ahmed Shawkat, Director of the Quality Assurance and University Performance Department, and the university’s Civil Defense Unit Officer. The visit aimed to verify the implementation of safety protocols, inspect the level of safety measures, and assess the readiness of emergency and security systems, especially in relation to fire suppression and evacuation procedures.
Colonel Mahdi emphasized the necessity of installing automatic CO₂ fire suppression systems in laboratories and ensuring early fire detection systems are in place in all buildings.
In the same context, committee members stressed the importance of installing water-based hose reel systems in university buildings and recommended proper distribution of fire extinguishers in rooms and corridors.
The visit concluded with a call to raise awareness among university staff through regular training sessions for administrative and academic personnel, emphasizing the need to place fire safety equipment in appropriate campus locations and to conduct practical emergency response drills for the university’s rapid response team.
This visit is part of ongoing efforts to enhance safety and security at Samarra University through continuous collaboration with the Civil Defense Directorate.
