The College of Agriculture at the University of Samarra Raises Awareness on the Importance of Food Preservation

The College of Agriculture at the University of Samarra organized an awareness campaign titled “Enhancing Community Awareness on the Importance of Food Preservation.” The campaign targeted high school female students in the Balad district and was presented by a group of faculty members from the college.

The campaign aimed to educate the community on food preservation methods to reduce food waste, contributing to environmental protection and resource sustainability. Food preservation helps lower the costs associated with purchasing food, enabling greater financial savings. It also promotes a culture of food planning, especially in purchasing, storing, and consuming food items.

Additionally, the campaign focused on spreading health awareness regarding food preservation and the role of proper preservation techniques in limiting the spread of diseases. It also encouraged the community to explore new, chemical-free preservation technologies.

In a related context, the campaign highlighted the direct link between reducing solid waste and minimizing food waste, which in turn helps decrease greenhouse gas emissions resulting from food decomposition in soil.
