The College of Engineering at the University of Samarra organized an awareness seminar titled “The Hidden Enemy in Society,” presented by lecturer Mohammed Fadel Hassan. The seminar aimed to shed light on the “hidden enemy,” referring to drugs, by explaining their types, methods of entry into the body, and the stages of addiction.

Fadel elaborated on the detrimental effects of drugs from health, security, economic, and social perspectives, as well as their religious prohibition and psychological and mental harms. He also detailed the specific harms associated with each type of drug.

Additionally, the speaker identified causes for the spread of drug addiction, including weak religious commitment, idleness and unemployment, deviant ideologies, misconceptions that drugs bring pleasure, peer pressure, poor family dynamics, and lack of parental supervision.

The seminar concluded by outlining preventive measures against drug dangers and treatment methods for addiction. Key strategies include proper upbringing, instilling correct Islamic principles, fostering mindfulness of God, engaging youth in beneficial activities that serve society, and promoting diverse sports activities.

Notably, the seminar was organized by the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit as part of the university’s plan to implement directives from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to curb the spread of drugs.
