Workshop at the University of Samarra Discusses Practical Steps for Document Preservation
The Rectorship of the University of Samarra organized a joint workshop in cooperation with the House of Books and Documents (affiliated with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities), titled “Practical and Scientific Steps for Document Preservation.”
The workshop lasted for two days, It was presented by Prof. Dr. (Mustafa Ali Abdulrahman) and Ms. (Sundus Abdalqader Mohammed) and Mr. (Hussein Sarhan Obaid)
The organizers aimed to introduce participants from the university’s various departments to the steps for preserving paper and digital documents and the mechanism for applying Law No. 37 of 2016.
The lecturers discussed the types and descriptions of documents, including, Documents that are not photographed/digitized and whose originals are destroyed. Documents that are photographed/digitized and whose originals are destroyed after a specified period, Documents that are not photographed/digitized and whose originals are destroyed after a specified period.
The lecturers, in turn, recommended that the destruction process should be carried out in cooperation with the Petrochemical Factory in Al-Taji for the purpose of the disposal process.
Additionally, they emphasized the need to adhere to certain requirements within the college and university to protect documents from damage, including, Modern photocopying machines, Fire extinguishers and civil defense safety measures, Ensuring there are no water pipes inside the document storage rooms.
