University of Samarra Launches Awareness Campaign to Combat Smoking
The Government Contracts Division, in collaboration with the Security Permits Department at the Presidency of the University of Samarra, organized an awareness campaign aimed at reducing the phenomenon of smoking.
The organizers sought to highlight the dangers of smoking, implement effective policies to curb this behavior, and protect both current and future generations from the risks of addiction.
The campaign involved distributing educational brochures containing data and statistics on the dangers of smoking, particularly the number of deaths among smokers and secondhand smoke inhalers.
Additionally, the university staff emphasized the health benefits associated with quitting smoking, such as increased blood oxygen levels, reduced blood pressure and heart rate, improved blood circulation, the nervous system’s adaptation to the absence of nicotine, the return of the senses of taste and smell, and the relaxation of the airways.
The brochures also included figures and statistics on the environmental damage caused by tobacco cultivation, such as gas emissions, environmental pollutants, and the destruction of agricultural lands.
It is worth noting that the campaign was launched in response to the recommendations of the university presidency, based on ministerial directives aimed at enhancing the role of universities and academic institutions in reducing smoking within campus grounds.
