Vice President for Scientific Affairs Chairs Awareness Meeting on Environmental Sustainability
Professor Dr. Kamal Hussein Ahmed, Vice President of the University for Scientific Affairs, chaired the first meeting of the Central Committee for Awareness in the Field of Energy, Environmental, and Climate Sustainability at the University of Samarra. The meeting aimed to promote environmental awareness and advance sustainable practices.
Attendees discussed the mechanisms and steps required to achieve the committee’s goals in spreading a culture of sustainability across the university. They also reviewed the formation of the central committee, the nature of its work, and established the timelines needed to carry out its assigned tasks.
In the same context, the committee agreed to establish awareness teams within the university’s colleges. These teams will be responsible for promoting awareness about energy, environmental, and climate sustainability, as well as conducting regular field visits to the colleges to monitor ongoing activities and ensure adherence to sustainability practices.
On another note, the Vice President emphasized the importance of uploading building conversion data to the “AUR” platform as part of the Energy, Environment, and Safety Sustainability Efficiency Program. This step aims to qualify the university for inclusion in the GREEN MATRIX ranking. The tasks will be assigned to the Electronic Computing Center and the Reconstruction and Projects Department. Additionally, a comprehensive plan will be developed to implement afforestation campaigns within and around the university campus, in coordination with the Administrative Affairs Department and the Afforestation Unit, to contribute to combating desertification.
It is worth noting that this committee seeks to fulfill the university’s vision of preserving the environment and achieving energy and environmental sustainability.
