Celebrating Earth Day: College of Agriculture Launches Volunteer Campaign for Green Environment Sustainability
The College of Agriculture at the University of Samarra organized a volunteer campaign under the theme “College of Agriculture… Toward Sustainable Agriculture and a Green Environment,” involving faculty members and staff. The campaign featured tree planting, seasonal plant cultivation, and the cleaning and maintenance of green spaces within the college.
The organizers aimed to promote the concepts of sustainable agriculture and green environmental preservation, while also encouraging students to engage in volunteer initiatives, particularly those related to environmental protection, afforestation, and combating desertification.
Additionally, some faculty members conducted awareness activities on environmental sustainability and the importance of green spaces during a field visit by the college administration to one of the college’s agricultural projects.
The Dean of the College emphasized that protecting the environment and ensuring its sustainability is a collective responsibility that must start with educational institutions, especially colleges of agriculture, which are directly responsible for environmental care, afforestation, and combating desertification, notably through awareness and educational activities alongside academic and research efforts.
It is worth noting that this campaign was organized in celebration of Earth Day, observed annually on April 22, reflecting the college administration and staff’s commitment to renewing their pledge to protect the environment and highlighting the importance of agricultural sustainability and environmental awareness.
