College of Applied Sciences Organizes Training Course on Biochemical Tests and Their Role in Disease Diagnosis

The College of Applied Sciences at the University of Samarra organized a training course titled “Biochemical Tests and Their Role in Disease Diagnosis,” delivered by Dr. Israa Ali Abdulkarim and Dr. Ruaa Lateef Noor.

The course included an introduction to various biochemical tests such as blood glucose measurement, lipid levels, kidney function, and liver function tests, and their roles in diagnosing diseases.

Dr. Ali explained the importance of measuring lipid levels, which are sometimes indicators of cardiovascular diseases, especially when cholesterol and triglyceride levels are elevated. She also discussed kidney function disorders and the assessment of certain biomarkers that aid in diagnosing chronic or acute kidney diseases, up to end-stage renal failure.

Dr. Lateef addressed liver function and certain enzymes released into the bloodstream when there is damage, breakdown, or necrosis in liver tissue, or in the case of liver inflammation. The most prominent of these enzymes are Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) and Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST).

Both lecturers recommended the regular monitoring of biomarkers to detect any significant increases or decreases in their levels, which can help in diagnosing related diseases. They also emphasized the importance of following a healthy diet and adhering to prescribed medications to reduce the severity of diseases resulting from such disorders.
