International Symposium at the College of Education for Humanities Discusses the Selection of Thesis and Dissertation Topics for Graduate Students

The Department of History at the College of Education for Humanities, University of Samarra, organized an international scientific symposium titled “Choosing a Research Topic Between Psychological Motivations and Academic Requirements,” with the participation of graduate students in the master’s and doctoral programs.

The symposium was presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hanadi Zaal Masoud from the University of Jordan, hosted as an external examiner, alongside Prof. Dr. Ibtisam Saadoun Al-Nouri from Al-Mustansiriya University. It was moderated by Assic. Prof. Dr. Hanan Mahmoud Abdul Rahim.

Dr. Hanadi explained the importance of choosing the research topic as the fundamental pillar in building a master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation. She clarified the scientific and methodological foundations that a researcher should rely on when determining their topic, and explained the selection mechanisms that align with the scientific specialization and the needs of historical studies in their various branches.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ibtisam focused on the psychological and cognitive aspects related to topic selection. She spoke about the impact of psychological stability, self-motivation, and economic and social conditions on the researcher’s ability to continue completing their scientific project, explaining the importance of harmony between the researcher’s inclinations and their academic capabilities.

It is worth mentioning that the symposium was distinguished by the attendance of the college’s Vice Deans for Scientific and Administrative Affairs, along with the Head of the History Department. They welcomed the two guests, while also pointing out the importance of such scientific activities that contribute to enhancing the quality of education and preserving the rigor of scientific research.
