Research Team at the College of Engineering Develops Mechanisms for Documenting Traffic Accidents in Salah al-Din
A specialized research team in Civil Engineering Sciences at the College of Engineering, University of Samarra, presented a research study to the Salah al-Din Traffic Directorate.
The aim is to improve the documentation of traffic accidents and update the adopted registration form in Salah al-Din Governorate.
The team consisted of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ra\\\’ed Abdullah Hassan, Assist. Lect. Ahmed Hadi Mahmoud, and Assist. Lect. Sarah Adnan Saeed.
The study focused on addressing the problem of poor quality of accident documentation, which directly hinders the analysis of their causes and the development of effective solutions to enhance traffic safety in the governorate.
The team relied on a precise review of traffic accident registration forms and an analysis of available data regarding number, location, and severity.
In the same context, the review showed a clear deficiency in the recorded information, particularly concerning accurate location data, road and weather conditions, driver status, and vehicle type.
This limitation restricts the identification of hazardous locations and the making of decisions based on reliable data.
For their part, the researchers proposed updating the traffic accident form used by the Traffic Directorate to make it more comprehensive and accurate, aligning with modern international models that help in building an integrated database.
This study aims to support traffic safety in Salah al-Din Governorate and is a pivotal step towards accurately analyzing the causes of accidents and developing engineering and administrative solutions that contribute to reducing accident and injury rates, in addition to enhancing the role of the university and its formations in providing community service in various aspects.
