Samarra University Hosts Journalist Issam Ksheish in Its Efforts to Combat Drug Abuse
As part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse, the Media Department at the College of Arts, Samarra University, hosted the esteemed journalist Issam Ksheish, the creator and presenter of the TV program Hikayatuhum (Their Stories), which airs on Al-Iraqiya, part of the Iraqi Media Network. This event was part of the department’s Guest Media initiative, which invites distinguished media professionals from Iraq to share their experiences and insights with students, enriching their practical knowledge.
The event began with Professor Dr. Ahmed Hussein Ali, a lecturer in voice and speech, introducing the guest without providing any background information. Instead, the department assigned the students the task of getting to know the guest by asking diverse questions about his experiences in media and literature, particularly regarding his well-known program Hikayatuhum, which focuses on individuals recovering from drug addiction.
During the discussion, Ksheish spoke about the art of media production and presentation, emphasizing the need for journalism students to cultivate strong research skills to produce high-quality content. He highlighted the importance of mastering language, embracing cultural diversity, and understanding one’s own strengths and suitable roles within the media industry. He also stressed the significance of continuous self-improvement through various resources.
The students actively engaged with the guest, asking insightful questions about the media industry, which Ksheish responded to with enthusiasm. He shared successful case studies of individuals overcoming addiction, demonstrating the positive impact of their stories on society.
Samarra University continues to support the government’s initiatives, including aligning with the Ministry of Higher Education’s directives to combat drug abuse. The university has launched various awareness campaigns and educational activities to highlight the dangers of drug addiction and promote continuous awareness among students through different approaches.
