Samarra University Organizes a Joint Scientific Course to Support Renewable Energy and Reduce Emissions

The Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance organized a scientific course on “Environmental Problems Facing Iraq and the Role of Universities in Developing Innovative Solutions to Achieve the Goals of the National Initiative to Support Energy and Reduce Emissions.” This was in collaboration with the Center for Continuous Education at the Presidency of Samarra University and the National Youth Team for Climate Change (affiliated with the Council of Ministers – Supreme Youth Council).
The course, which spanned Wednesday and Thursday, October 5-6, was presented by Assist lect. Ahmed Abd Albari Abd Al wahid, Mr. Harith Abd Alrahman Hussein from Samarra University, and Mr. Imad Shallal Salih, a member of the National Youth Team for Climate Change.
Mr. Abd Al wahid gave a presentation on pollution and its environmental impacts, starting with a definition of environmental pollution, its classifications, and its types, including water pollution (its causes and effects), air pollution (its sources and resulting health risks), and radioactive pollution affecting soil and its impact on society and agricultural wealth.
In the same context, the course highlighted several pollution control strategies, including, Supporting scientific research in specialized topics to reduce emissions. Encouraging a shift towards renewable energy. Adhering to international agreements.
On the other hand, Mr. Hussein clarified the role of the university in confronting environmental pollution through scientific research, awareness, and enhancing educational outputs commensurate with community needs. Iraqi universities contribute to solving pollution problems through scientific research, especially by encouraging environmental studies and developing research projects aimed at improving the environment and community health.
In turn, Mr. Salih pointed out the necessity of establishing a comprehensive strategy to combat environmental pollution, which includes clear goals and an action plan involving all relevant parties, including the government and civil society. He also emphasized the importance of cooperation with upstream countries as a vital step to secure water shares, which contributes to reducing pollution and securing water resources for Iraq.
It is noted that the course was organized in implementation of the requirements of the government program and in realization of the objectives of the National Initiative to Support Energy and Reduce Emissions.
