The Human Rights Division meets with human rights representatives from the colleges to determine the complaint handling mechanism.
The Human Rights Division at the Presidency of Samarra University held its first meeting, which included representatives from the Human Rights Units in the university’s colleges. The meeting was held to review the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s circular concerning the mechanism for submitting and handling human rights-related complaints.
The meeting aimed to enhance the mechanisms for receiving and handling human rights complaints at Samarra University through coordination between the Human Rights Units within the university and the central committee established at the university. This coordination seeks to ensure justice and resolve issues faced by the university’s staff, faculty, and students. Additionally, the meeting aimed to establish a comprehensive and up-to-date database for auditing and investigation committees concerned with human rights matters within the university and to develop effective procedures for addressing these complaints in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
The committee emphasized the need to form subcommittees in the university’s colleges that would be linked to the central committee at the university’s presidency. The discussion also covered how to handle complaints submitted to the subcommittees and how to forward them to the central committee, as well as the establishment of a clear mechanism for receiving complaints from the university community.
The committee members recommended creating a comprehensive central database that includes detailed records of complaints, regularly updating this data, organizing training sessions for university staff, and raising awareness among students and staff about their human rights, while ensuring the confidentiality of information.
