The President of Samarra University Discusses Institutional Media Support with the Director of Al Jazeera Initiatives

Professor Dr. Sabah Allawi Al-Samarrai, President of Samarra University, met with journalist Muntasir Marai, Director of Al Jazeera Initiatives, during his visit to Samarra University to discuss support for institutional media in Iraqi universities, including the media department at Samarra University and its Department of Media students in the College of Arts. The discussion particularly focused on leveraging the initiatives launched by the Al Jazeera Media Institute.

Dr. Al-Samarrai emphasized the importance of media in governmental institutions and the need to support credible media outlets in Iraqi universities. He highlighted the necessity of enhancing media students’ skills through training courses, particularly those offered as part of Al Jazeera Institute’s initiatives.

In the same context, the university president added that the development of professional journalists in various fields cannot be achieved without practical application, which is represented by the training aspect undertaken by credible media institutions, in parallel with the universities’ academic role in their preparation.

For his part, Marai affirmed the readiness of Al Jazeera Institute to support educational institutions, particularly Samarra University, its media department, and its students. He also expressed gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality extended to him by Samarra University, its administration, and staff.
