Seminar at the College of Education for Humanities Highlights the Role of Women in Economic Development

The College of Education for Humanities at the University of Samarra organized a scientific seminar on “The Role of Women in Economic Development,” presented by Assist. Lect. Hanouda Ahmed Jasim and Assist. Lect. Duha Mahmoud Ayash, faculty members in the Department of Geography.

The seminar began by emphasizing the importance of women\’s participation in the economic process as a fundamental element in achieving sustainable growth and development.

It was noted that increasing women\’s engagement in the labor market directly contributes to raising the level of domestic production, improving institutional performance, and enhancing diversity and innovation within work environments.

Ms. Hanouda clarified the role of education and qualification in building women\’s skills and their economic empowerment.

Simultaneously, she outlined a set of obstacles facing women\’s participation in the labor market, including limited employment opportunities, lack of training and qualification, social restrictions, and limited governmental support for women\’s empowerment programs.
In the same context, Ms. Duha discussed the main positive outcomes resulting from strengthening women\’s economic role, which included social development, increased creativity, enhanced personal empowerment, as well as women\’s contribution to leadership positions, and more effective utilization of human resources potential.

The seminar concluded with a package of recommendations, most notably formulating policies that ensure equal pay, raising community awareness of women\’s economic role, and providing childcare centers within workplaces to support working women and enable their active participation in development.

The seminar was organized by the Women\’s Affairs Unit in cooperation with the Department of Geography at the College of Education for Humanities.
