Training course at the College of Education for Pure Sciences highlights the role of the chemist in protecting national security.

The Department of Chemistry at the College of Education for Pure Sciences, University of Samarra, explained \”the role of the chemist in protecting national security\” in a training course presented by a group of the department\’s faculty members.

The course focused on the role of the chemist in security protection, which is considered a fundamental pillar in the national security system, due to the pivotal role they play in protecting society and the environment from various chemical hazards, beyond the limits of traditional laboratory work.

The responsibilities of the chemist include regulating the handling and management of hazardous chemical materials according to approved legal frameworks, in addition to rapid scientific response to chemical incidents and emergencies, risk assessment, and developing effective preventive strategies to mitigate their effects.

At the conclusion of the course, the lecturers recommended the necessity of developing modern techniques for the early detection of pollutants and hazardous materials, in addition to supporting national efforts in combating chemical threats and enhancing industrial security, which contributes to protecting vital institutions and facilities, as well as enhancing environmental, food, and water security, in addition to supporting stability and achieving sustainable development.
